Probus Clubs provide a regular meeting place for men with a PROfessional or BUSiness background who have retired, are partly retired, or are approaching retirement, particularly for those who would appreciate and value increased social contact in their retirement, the opportunity for meeting others in similar circumstances and participating in activities of general interest.

We have just over 100 members at Mole Valley Probus, but run a waiting list, whose members also attend meetings and functions, at the invitation of their sponsors. Membership is by invitation only.

We currently meet at Tyrrell's Wood Golf Club [Map] [Google map] on the 3rd Thursday of each month, when we have a lunch and a speaker on a topic of general interest. In May and December we invite our ladies, and meet at the [Google map] Leatherhead Leisure Centre (to accomodate the numbers).

We organize, about once a month, an outing, usually by coach, to a place of interest, and a well organised walk (gentle stroll?) for the enthusiasts.

Once or twice a year we arrange a "long-haul" trip, to Europe or a place of interest in Britain, for a week, or a long weekend.

We organise a monthly walk to encourage members to keep fit, and we have now started an "Amblers' Group" for those who cannot quite manage the 4 mile walk.

And we run a monthly raffle with proceeds to a selected charity.

Long haul: 26 Sept to 1 Oct 2013 As Brian Gourlay has retired after three very successful UK holidays, Ron Heasman has organised the 2013 trip, to Norfolk . 19 to 24 Sept 2012 Brian's trip to the Cardiff area .went very well - while Leatherhead drowned they enjoyed good weather, with occasional sun, and some very interesting visits. Mid May 2013 Derek Steer's trip to the Italian Riviera was greatly enjoyed, and not only has he prepared his next trip, to The Lot area in Southern France, in the third week of May 2013, but it is already fully booked. Outings: Ron Stanton, our new Outings Secretary, has arranged, or persuaded members to organise, plenty of day trips for 2013/14, including: John Davies' visit to the Festival Hall on 20th March for a much enjoyed concert of Russian music, Terry Hulme's two trips to London, to visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition and backstage at the Royal Opera House, and another to explore the Thames Barrier and backstage at the Royal Opera House.
